I have always liked Stockholm. Perhaps it is because my father lived there or perhaps it is the lovely architecture in such proximity to the water. Not only does the city have an amazing archipelago but now a Swedish company is taking the concept of living by the sea to the next level. They are building on it.

Marinstaden will have 61 fairly standard homes floating on pontoons in a small bay with a wooded hillside on one side and water on the other. There will be a couple of channels between the homes so you can access your home by boat. There will also be a car park at one side of the development so you can travel more conventionally.

I did not notice any cleats on the pontoons in the development (hopefully you are allowed to keep your boat beside your home) but it is a comforting to know your seaside home will be okay no matter how much sea levels rise by.
