Yacht Overloading

Tuesday 8 November 2011
Grahame Stronge of Strangford Yacht Charter has just pled guilty to overloading his charter yacht on a trip from Strangford Lough to Isle of Man. His yacht carried 20 passengers when it was only coded for 12. According to their website the cost of a charter is 100 per person per day. 800 (the equivalent of the illegal additional passengers) is not going to be a huge deterrent for similar companies doing the same. Let's hope good seamanship practices prevail so we can continue to avoid overloading tragedies that other countries have seen.
